President Barack Obama is expected to sign into law by executive order Monday that businesses contracted with the federal government must provide paid sick days for their employees.
Other Labor Day orders from the President include requiring federal contractors to increase their paychecks and conditions for their workers. They also have to expand overtime compensation and ban discrimination against sexual orientation and raising the minimum wage as reported by CNN.He had tried to get the Congress to extend the new rules but was met with resistance from the Republicans in Congress.
The rule he is going to sign into law on Monday requires small businesses contracted by the federal government to provide an hour of paid sick leave for every thirty hours their employees work. It would be capped off at seven paid sick days per year.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Since Congress has blocked Obama’s business reform proposals he is left passing laws by executive order that affects the federal government or their contractors. To change the laws for all American’s he would need approval by Congress.
Some groups such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce have claimed the President has overstepped his legal authority and are threatening to sue.
The news rules will be in affect in 2017. It is said the delay is to allow companies companies competing for government work to incorporate the additional costs into their bids. Others feel he is kicking the can down the road to when he is out of office so others can blame the new president if the changes are a disaster.
