It appears as if former Florida Governor Jeb Bush is outpacing Marco Rubio with support from his very own gente (people in Espanol), the Cuban-American community in south Florida.
Even though Bush and Rubio are neck-and-neck with fundraising in Miami-Dade County, recent poll conducted by Bendixen & Amandi for the Miami Herald shows that Bush has an amazing 43-31 percent lead over Rubio among the old Cuban-American guard of the Republican Party.Overall, Bush leads Rubio 35-25 in the county, but the real significant polling number is that 12 percentage point lead Bush enjoys with Rubio’s perceived political Ace in the Hole, the Cuban exile community.
“It could be a very difficult number for Marco. When he can’t win over the heart of his base, what does that mean for his prospects of winning the primary in Florida?”-Fernand Amandi
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Great story about coming from Cuban immigrants aside, Rubio is in some deep Ajiaco (Cuban soup) in Miami-Dade County.
But is Bush’s popularity among Cuban-Americans a fluke?
Bush seems to garner the support from older Cuban-Americans because they know him longer than Rubio. Remember, Bush was Governor for 8 years before anyone knew who ‘Marquito’ Rubio even was.Last year at a GOP “Get Out The Vote” (GOTV) rally in Hialeah, Florida, and just days prior to the 2014 general election, dozens of Cuban-Americans chanted “Jeb para president.,” as the former governor addressed the crowd in Spanish. Was this a sign of what is to come? Maybe.
Should we expect both men to make wearing a Guayabera shirt a mandatory action for themselves whenever they are campaigning in La Saguesera, or anywhere else in Miami-Dade County?
I wouldn’t dismiss Rubio just yet. Anyone who runs sprints with an open parachute tethered to their waistband is never down for the count.
As Cuban’s will say, “Dale!”
