Florida’s other U.S. Senator, Bill Nelson (D), who isn’t running for president in 2016, is not taking sides in the upcoming Democratic Senate primary race between Rep. Patrick Murphy and Rep. Alan Grayson.
While Murphy has already announced his Senate intentions, Grayson hasn’t made an official announcement, but has said that he is strongly considering challenging Murphy, especially after the Democrat establishment has already crowned his fellow colleague in the House of Representatives, as their party’s nominee. The POLITICO caught up with Sen. Nelson and asked him about the race. Here is the exchange with Nelson:
Question: Will you endorse?
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Nelson: “Of course, as the senior Democrat in the state – the only statewide Democrat – I’m going to stay out of the primary. But, I think – I think murphy, if he gets the nomination, has an excellent chance to win the general. It will be a high turnout, a presidential election.’
Q: Have you talked to Grayson?
Nelson: “I said, Alan, I’m ready any time you are…”Q: Can Grayson win the general?
Nelson: “I don’t know the answer that.”
It is obvious that Democrats do not want Grayson in the race because of his history of using inflammatory an outright offensive rhetoric to trash Republicans, painting himself as the liberal extremist politician that many Americans belief he is.
A Grayson Senate candidacy would surely liven this race up. This said, I was encourage Alan Grayson to challenge Patrick Murphy.
Run Alan Run!
