Senate President Andy Gardiner had promised on Tuesday that Florida legislators will “get a budget done” when they meet for the special session starting on June 1st per the Miami Herald.
Gardiner also said:You could have a scenario where no health care bills get done and you do a budget and you go home. But I have confidence in the Senate that we’ll be able to address all these issues and we’ll figure it out.
Those comments came after Senate rolled out their FHIX health care plan (FHIX 2.0). FHIX 2.0 would put people into Medicaid starting on January instead of the originally proposed July 1st. The proposal would also give residents the option of staying on the federal health insurance exchange rather then transferring to the state’s privately-run option. Granted if approved the proposal would have to get approved by the federal government as well.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
The proposed bill also includes a state back-up plan if the Supreme Court rules in favor of the plaintiffs in King v. Burwell. If this happens federal health care subsidies will be invalidated. FHIX 2.0 will allow people on those plans to enroll in the program.
FHIX 2.0 is expected to be voted on in the Senate next week.
After the vote the bill would move the House where the House could amend it or draft it’s own legislation.
