A clear sign that Lt. Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera, aka CLC, will soon be announcing his candidacy in the 2016 Republican senatorial primary race in Florida, is the creation of a Super PAC that supports his potential run for the U.S. Senate.
The Reform Washington Super PAC is lead by Darlene Jordan and Marco Rubio’s billionaire backer, Norman Braman, as well as by Remedios Diaz-Oliver, Pat Neal, Trey Traviesa, Lucas Boyce, and Peret Pass.In addition, veteran Washington, D.C. Super PAC honcho Charlie Spies is running the show.
The move to start a Super PAC makes sense, considering that CLC will most likely have to wait until the conclusion of the upcoming special legislative session before he can announce his Senatorial campaign.

When Lopez-Cantera formally announces his run for the Senate, he will face Rep. Ron DeSantis (R) who has already declared his candidacy, and has already been crowned as the conservative choice in this upcoming race.
DeSantis, who sits on a nice $1 million federal campaign piggy bank, has been able to garner the backing of several powerful conservative groups such as The Club for Growth, FreedomWorks, Senate Conservatives Fund, and now Citizen’s United.
Because DeSantis has been able to nab the support from these groups, it doesn’t necessarily mean that Lopez-Cantera is less conservative than he is, rather that DeSantis is a known quantity to these groups, and has a congressional voting record to substantiate their support.Lopez-Cantera will have time to showcase is conservative bona fides in the coming months, and will most likely anchor his campaign on the uptick in job creation and economic growth that has occurred in Florida during his time as Lt. Governor.
Expect Lopez-Cantera to add quite a bit of arroz con frijole flavor to this upcoming contested Republican Senate primary race.
