Senator Marco Rubio’s recent presidential announcement has set off the political chain reaction that many in the press and political circles knew would happen once the junior Senator from Florida made it very clear that he would not run for re-election to the U.S. Senate, if he decided to run for president in 2016.
With Rep. Ron DeSantis’ recent announcement that he would look to replace Rubio in the Senate, it opens up his very safe Republican congressional seat in Northeast Florida.DeSantis’ Senate campaign roll out included the expected endorsements from the Club For Growth, Senate Conservatives Fund, and Freedom Works, which all backed then-Senate candidate Marco Rubio during his historic 2010 Senate race against former Republican-turned-Independent-turned-Democrat, Charlie Crist.
If you couple these endorsements with the $1.1 million his campaign account has on hand, the popular Naval Reserve Officer from Ponte Vedra, Florida, looks like the next Marco Rubio, or even Tom Cotton.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Remember, when Rubio jumped into the Senate race back in 2009, he struggled to garner statewide name recognition and raise campaign cash, not to mention he was going up against a very popular sitting governor, was able to use his bully pulpit to rake in a lot of Republican campaign dollars.
If you compare the current state of DeSantis’ Senate campaign to that of Rubio’s in 2009, it is easy to come to the conclusion that DeSantis has a clearer path to victory than what Rubio had back when he first announced that he would run for the U.S. Senate.
While DeSantis has instantly become the apparent replacement for Rubio in the Senate, let’s not forget that DeSantis will face a primary challenge from Lt. Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera, who has very high name recognition within the most populous of all Florida counties, Miami-Dade County.Oh, and don’t let me forget that ‘CLC’ and Marco Rubio are close friends, who have probably played a game or two of Dominos together, and have broken bread at Latin American Cafeteria and Bakery in West Miami. Dale!
The Democrats
A high profile Republican campaign announcement would not be the same if the Democrats didn’t open up their political playbook and attempt pounce on the GOP candidate, accusing him or her of being anti-Woman, anti-Hispanic, anti-Equal rights, or even anti-Guacamole.
Here is what the Florida Democrat Party on their not-so-flashy DeSantis attack website:
Meet Congressman Ron DeSantis, a politician who loves Washington’s partisan extremism and dysfunction. He’s part of the problem in Washington, and now he’s running to take his extreme views to the U.S. Senate. But the truth is that Congressman DeSantis is everything Floridians hate about Washington.
- Congressman DeSantis hasa long record of supporting anti-Hispanic and anti-immigrant legislation.
- Congressman DeSantiswants to end Medicare as we know it.
- Congressman DeSantis disagrees with the majority of Floridians who believe love is love andsupport marriage equality for all.
- Congressman DeSantis is astrong and vocal opponent of a woman’s right to choose, opposes equal pay for equal work for women, and even voted against reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act.
The Florida Democrat Party might want to focus more on who they are going to support in their primary race, seeing that they could have one heck of a embarrassing primary circus act on their hands.
The Democratic Senate Campaign Committee has thrown their support behind Rep. Patrick Murphy over everyone’s favorite bomb-throwing liberal Democrat Congressman, Alan Grayson, prompting him to pitch a fit, and possibly drive him to run a scorched earth Democratic Senate campaign against Murphy.
Republicans want to face Grayson for obvious reasons.
How easy would it be to campaign against someone who equates a good portion of the American electorate to the Klu Klux Klan?Run Alan Run!
