Representative Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is expected to announce on Wednesday he is running for Marco Rubio’s (R-FL) Senate seat.
Per the Associated Press, DeSantis said:As a candidate for Senate, I look forward to offering reforms based on limited government that will make our country stronger and more prosperous.
DeSantis has been thinking about entering the race for several weeks. He has also been considered by many conservatives as one of the top choices to replace Rubio.

As a native Floridian DeSantis worked hard to get where he is today. He put himself through school by performing various odd jobs. That hard work paid off and he earned his bachelor or arts degree, magna cum laude from Yale University. Later he graduated with honors from Harvard Law School. While at Harvard he was a JAG officer for the United States Navy.
Ron has also proven himself in Washington. Since he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012 he has served on the Judiciary, Foreign Affairs and Oversight and Reform Committees. He is currently the chairman of the Oversight Committee’s National Security subcommittee and the vice-chairman of the Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice.
Even though he is going to be the first Republican entrant, it is expected he will not be the last. Other Republican’s considering running include: Lt. Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera, Reps. Jeff Miller and David Jolly and former state Senate President Don Gaetz.
