Senator Marco Rubio’s political career has really taken off since 2008. Rubio went from a virtual no-name state legislator, to a U.S. Senator, and is now vying to be the next president of the United States of America.
Let’s take a little stroll down memory lane.During Marco Rubio’s 2010 Senate campaign, I was privileged enough to be able to follow, and document Rubio’s historic campaign from the very beginning, before it even got off the ground, and any staff decisions were made, including the questionable hiring of individuals who would later be referred to as “The Three Amigos.”
As I documented in my book “BROWN PEOPLE,” back on a Saturday night in early February 2009, I met Marco at bar in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he was speaking to a now-debunk local Republican club.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
While his speech was in full stride, Rubio was heckled by some individuals who believed that he supported amnesty for illegal aliens.
After confronting those individuals, Rubio made a bee-line to me to discuss the situation, and the rest was history. We exchange phone numbers and agreed to speak the following Monday while on his drive to Naples, Florida.
After about 3 hours of chatting, we agreed to sitting down for an interview. We decided to do it the following week at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables. At the time, the Shark Tank did not exist, I was barely getting into politics with a PAC I formed, and writing for Redcounty.com, a conservative site that has since shut its doors.
I didn’t know this guy from the next, except that he was heckled off a stage, and seemed somewhat controversial. So, why not get him on record defending allegations that he was not a conservative, and was for amnesty for illegal aliens?
Upon arriving at the hotel, Rubio was already there was a media consultant that was trying to get his business. Unfortunately, Rubio decided not to go with this consultant, rather hiring “The Three Amigos,” and then other “Johnny come lately,” who later proved to be a problematic for the campaign.
This was my very first interview, so I proceeded to ask Rubio softball questions.
After the interview was posted, Rubio took the link to the story I wrote about the interview and pushed it to friends, politicos, and all sorts of media types. Everyone who was paying attention at the time picked up the story and video. In essence, this interview video cause a bit of a buzz in the political world, and launched Rubio’s historic 2010 Senate campaign, which officially kicked off a couple of months later.
As Rubio and other Cubaniche amigos would say, Dale!
