This is a very interesting story that comes out of a place that is never short of anything interesting: Hollywood.
Modern Family actress Sofia Vergara and her then fiance Nick Loeb decided to create two embryo’s and have them frozen hoping to later find a surrogate to carry the children to term. Now that the couple is separated Nick Loeb is suing to keep the embryo’s from being destroyed. At first I thought maybe he wanted to find a surrogate and have the babies for revenge and I was skeptical but when I read further that is not his intentions at all. According to Loeb’s close friend he has been a staunch pro-life Republican all of his life. Loeb’s friend told ABC’s Good Morning America:
killing these embryos is no different than killing a life.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
This is where it gets controversial. According to the University of Michigan:
Usually when frozen for in-vitro fertilization the embryos are generally up to 7 days old.at 21-days old, a human embryo is less than two millimeters long or roughly the size of the circle at the end of this sentence.
According to The Daily Signal, at this point the embryos already have their own unique DNA. They are comprised of half Vergara’s and half Loeb’s DNA. The Daily Signal also states they are considered to be living and are capable of growth.
Even though they would need the right resources to grow such as a womb it is said all of us need the right resources to live such as food. If we died of starvation would we stop being human?
Granted, in contrast they did not merge naturally. At the hand of a human the sperm was joined with the egg and one could even say they are “manufactured” embryos.
So what exactly does Loeb intend to do with the embryos? He wants to simply keep them alive. The court is probably going to need more then that. They do not like to leave things open ended. So that might be something that will arise during his case.
For now, watch the ABC News video below and you can decide: what should happen to the embryos?
