When you are running for re-election one way to show the voters you are a credible candidate is by getting endorsements from other well liked elected officials, local popular small businesses or groups that support your agenda.
In Jacksonville, mayoral incumbent Alvin Brown’s picked up an endorsed by someone other then the norm. He was endorsed and received a campaign contribution from an convicted killer. The embattled mayor was already on damage control for refusing to debate republican challenger, Lenny Curry and then having a “change of heart” and agreeing to debate him after all. This latest news is probably throwing his campaign in a tizzy.
Zakee Fur’qan is actually Leon Edward Nelson a man convicted of second-degree murder and felony-level robbery. Fur’qan not only endorsed Alvin Brown, he gave him money as well. For awhile before the news got out the Brown campaign was bragging about his endorsement and had it on their website.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Below is a screen shot of Brown’s campaign website before Fur’qan’s name was removed.
As per Floridapolitics.com in 1991 Nelson was convicted of second-degree murder and was released in 1998. In 2000 Leon Edward Nelson changed his name to Zakee Fur’qan because he converted to Islam.Apparently Fur’qan did not learn his lesson the first time because he was arrested again in 2008 and charged with robbing two Rooms to Go trucks loaded with furniture. That arrest was covered by the Florida Times-Union. That report of the robbery also points out Nelson changed his name.
After the last incident Fur’qan has been very active as a Florida Democrat and currently owns Freedom Landscape and Lawn Maintenance. In 2012 he contributed $1,200 to the Friends of Corrine Brown Campaign Committee.
According to records Fur’qan registered to vote in 2004. As a convicted killer it is not clear if he had his voting rights restored and an inquiry with the Florida Division of Elections has been made.
