According to CNN, a small group of Democrats are planning to meet with Israeli Ambassador Ron Dermer over dinner at his house in hopes of repairing their damaged relationship.
This is going to be very difficult to do since the White House made it crystal clear the administration would not overlook the Prime Minister’s flip-flop on Palestinian statehood and they will get it done any way they can.White House Chief of Staff, Denis McDonough said:
After the election, the prime minister said that he had not changed his position, but for many in Israel and in the international community such contradictory comments call into question his commitment to a two-state nation. We cannot simply pretend that these comments were never made.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
After Netanyahu was re-elected last week, Obama told him he would “reassess” U.S. support for Israel but his recent day comments seem to say otherwise. As McCain said on Sunday, the President has been throwing a temper tantrum and he cannot let his personal feelings towards Netanyahu go in order to focus on the issues at hand.
In regards to the comments the White House pointed out Netanyahu said before he was elected, Netanyahu has since apologized for them. He even wrote the following Facebook post about it on Monday:
I know that my comments last week offended some Israeli citizens and offended members of the Israeli Arab community. This was never my intent. I apologize for this.
It seems some congressional Democrats are looking to apologize as well. They hope to damper down the drama between the Democrats and Israel’s prime minister’s government.
