Did you know, in the state of Florida if you are living with someone you are dating and you are not married it is against the law? It is not one of those forgot about laws either. They are enforcing it and the legislature tried to abolish it a few times with no success.
Under the current law it is illegal to cohabitate with some one who is not your spouse. Furthermore, the second degree misdemeanor crime is punishable by a $500 fine and up to 60 days in jail.Chapter 798 of the Florida Statutes:
798.02 Lewd and lascivious behavior. – If any man and woman, not being married to each other, lewdly and lasciviously associate and cohabit together, or if any man or woman, married or unmarried, engages in open and gross lewdness and lascivious behavior, they shall be guilty of a misdemeanor of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
The only other states to ban cohabitation is Michigan and Mississippi.
Florida’s law originates back to 1868 when lawmakers were bent on using the state as a mechanism for social engineering and population control. Some law makers feel it is time to change it.
On Monday, committees in the Florida House and Senate both approved bills that will take out “lewd and lascivious behavior” from statute. One of the sponsors of the bill Rep. Michelle Rehwinkel Vasilinda (D) said:
You could actually arrest somebody for living together without knowing any other piece of information about their relationship.
Representative Charles Van Zant (R) does not think the law should be changed. He said by doing so it would be contrary to biblical intentions:
If you want this law to pass be sure to call up your local representative and urge them to vote for it.In Scripture, God’s first institution was marriage. It was not cohabitation. It was marriage between a man and a woman.
