Last week there was a lot of debate over Senator Tom Cotton (AK-R) and 47 other Republican Senators sending an open letter to Iran.
As some background on Senator Cotton: he is former Army captain who served tours in both Afghanistan and Iraq. The reason they sent a letter to Iran is because President Obama wants to give Iran nuclear technology that will essentially mean in 10 years they could produce a nuclear bomb. Personally I thought we were trying to keep countries from having nuclear bombs but I guess that is not the President’s agenda.
What the senator’s and the president are currently debating is who should have the last word and decide if Iran should get the nuclear technology.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Senator Cotton wrote in an op-ed in USA Today Wednesday:
The letter released on Monday told leaders of the Islamic Republic that without congressional approval any nuclear-arms deal agreed to by Obama and Iran can be revoked when the president leaves office. Our goal is simple: to stop Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
Senator Cotton has said he is not surprised the letter got so much attention from the president and the Democrats.
This is what he has said in regards to the attacks he has received since his letter:
A few rhetorical bullets fired in a political debate don’t really trouble me too much. What I’m focused on is Iran and stopping Iran from getting a weapon and that’s what 46 other senators are focused on and that’s what the Congress is trying to stop the president from doing, negotiating a bad deal that would let Iran get the nuclear bomb.
Liberal news outlets are criticizing Cotton, saying he threatened Iran and that he does not give sh** about Iran talks (yes, that is what was said which I think is highly disrespectful to say to a man who has fought wars in both Afghanistan and Iraq).
The 46 other Senators who signed the letter are:
