Whereas other states such as New Jersey have found that red-light cameras were actually causing more accidents, were only a money trap and have since got rid of the program all together: Florida is thinking about revamping theirs.
Even though there was opposition from local governments, a House panel on Wednesday approved a plan revamping the state’s red-light camera law.The plan is PCB HWSS 15-05 and it would bar the use of cameras to cite drivers for turning right on red. Personally I feel they should ban red light cameras all together and show us a non bias study that they are effective.
PCB HWSS 15-05 would also require local governments use money earned from tickets to bolster public safety. Even though as noted above, other states have found they cause more accidents then they prevent.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Let me go into some explanation about why they cause more accidents. It is because when people see a red light camera they slam on their brakes and either get rear ended or are at risk of getting rear ended. The amount of people actually going thru red lights in minimal but the amount of people slamming on their brakes to avoid the red light far exceeds the danger they are supposed to avoid.
Assemblyman Declan O’Scalon (NJ-R) pointed out just that and the fact all they do is raise money for municipalities.
Below is a video of O’Scalon talking about why red light cameras in New Jersey and other states are bad:Charlie Crist enacted the red-light cameras in 2010 when he signed into law the Mark Wandall Traffic Safety Act and it was said the cameras would make intersections “safer.”
Since then courts, politicians and studies in other states have found this to be a lie, why does Florida still have red-light cameras?
