When Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell agreed to separate the DHS funding bill from the rider that would defund Obama’s immigration reform he promised there would be a separate vote to block the immigration order. That stand alone bill failed in the Senate Friday.
In a 57-42 vote the bill did not get the 60 votes it needed to pass even though three Democrats voted for it. The three Democrats that voted for the bill were: Joe Donnelly (IN-D), Joe Manchin (WV-D) and Claire McCaskill (MO-D).Whereas the 42 nays comprised solely of Democrats.
McConnell immediately filed a motion after to keep the bill for further consideration while Republicans in Congress continue to try to block Obama’s executive orders on immigration reform that would lift the threat of deportation on millions of illegal immigrants.
