Federal prosecutors are saying two of the men were noticed by law officials in early August after they expressed online, support for the terrorist groups.
U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, Loretta Lynch, had the following to say about the arrests:
The flow of foreign fighters to Syria represents an evolving threat to our country and to our allies. As alleged in the compliant, two of the defendants in this case sought to travel to Syria to join ISIL but were prepared to wage violent jihad here in the United States if they were unable to travel.
They are all being charged with attempt and conspiracy to provide material support and if convicted they could each spend 15 years in prison.
