Jeb Bush is probably ashamed today because his campaign released the social security numbers of a lot of Floridians. He decided to release emails from when he was Governor of Florida on his website in the “spirit of transparency.” Call it a little too transparent or just a dumb oversight but the social securities were not blacked out and now a lot of residents are in danger of identity theft.
When he released the emails he posted the following message on his website:In the spirit of transparency, I am posting the emails of my governorship here . . . Some are funny; some are serious; some I wrote in frustration.
What he forgot to mention is some also contain the email addresses, home addresses, social security numbers of Floridians.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
The Verge took the liberty of reviewing a lot of the released emails and initially releasing the story. They said the emails contained everything from religious parables, praise of his accomplishments and typical everyday bureaucratic correspondence. The emails also contained a lot of personal information that are a violation of the law.

Under Florida law, social security numbers are protected and are exempt from any public disclosure. The party or parties responsible for releasing the social security numbers could be looking at a noncriminal infraction which is punishable by a fine up to $500. If it is found they willfully or knowingly released the social security numbers, they could be looking at a harsher penalty.
The Bush campaign is now doing damage control. They are in the process of scrubbing all of the emails to get rid of or blur out the social security numbers.
This early in the game such a slip up is not only embarrassing it could have easily been avoided. I also looked thru some of the emails and what I noticed is there were a lot of incoming emails and not a lot of outgoing ones. It also said on the website they had went over the emails and reformatted them.
I highly doubt they did not review the emails or even pick and choose which ones they wanted to disclose prior to releasing them. Blacking out and/or omitting Floridian’s social security numbers seems to be common sense.
