Someone wake Al Sharpton up and tell him that black enrollment at the University of Florida is down, and some school educators are saying its because of former “white” Governor Jeb Bush’s “One Florida” initiative, “which prohibits state university from using race or gender as a basis for admission.”
The drop in black freshman enrollment at the University is substantial, as the school has reported that more than a 50 percent drop between the 2007 to 2013, putting the black student level of 910 in 2007, to 395 in 2013.Because Hispanics are increasing in population in the stated of Florida, it is only natural that more and more Hispanic students will enrolling into the University of Florida, and other colleges across the state, let alone around the country.
Could the this be the reason for why black students are not enrolling at the school? Probably not.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Unfortunately, the problem that black students face is not because of the long-existing education affirmative action that is being choked off, but the larger standing issues that most of these students face at home during their developmental years.
“We try to engage with community-based organizations engaging with diverse student populations,” Evans said. “We put a significant focus on urban schools, rural and low-income schools. We continue to target first-generation students.”
The information on black enrollment rates, compiled by Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, showed the University of Florida had the second-highest decline in black freshmen in the Southeastern Conference. The University of South Carolina had the highest decline in black undergraduate enrollment, a 30.6 percent dip from 2004 to 2013.Overall minority enrollment at the University of Florida is up mainly due to a continued growth in the Hispanic/Latino population, Evans said.
“It fits naturally with the large Hispanic population in Florida,” she said. “Overall, the diversity in the application pool is holding steady at 20 percent. We want to have as diverse a group as possible.”
Jeb Bush’s education initiative is fair, and it has proven to work. Isn’t fairness and equality what Sharpton and other like-minded race-baiters have been asking for?
