Oh boy.
Senator Marco Rubio has dusted off his big boy pants and boldly stated that if he runs for president in 2016, that not only can he win the Republican nomination, but he can also win the presidency.Rubio told the AP that he hasn’t made up his mind on whether to run for president or re-election to the Senate in 2016.
“I believe that if I decide to run for president, we have a path to be a very competitive candidate, and ultimately to win…“I can’t guarantee a victory. Certainly these races will be very competitive, and there’s factors outside of our control that will determine a lot of it,” he said. “But if we made the decision to run for president, I believe that we ca n put together the organization and raise the money necessary to win.” -Senator Marco Rubio

Rubio then reiterated what he has been saying all along in regards to simultaneously running for re-election to the Senate and the presidency:
And then there is the issue of immigration.“If you decide that you’re going to run for president of the United States, that’s what you need to run for. You need to be focused,” Rubio said. “If I decide to run for president, I’ll run for president. And I’m not going to be looking for some exit strategy or off-ramp in case things don’t work out.”
Rubio’s self-inflicted political death blow in 2013 of flip-flopping on his position on immigration reform could prove to be the one move what sinks his potential presidential candidacy.
Remember, Rubio was against comprehensive immigration reform, before he was against it, and not favors a more practical “piecemeal” approach to immigration reform.
“I ran for office to identify problems and try to solve them,” he said. “Now, we tried to solve them last year through a comprehensive bill. And it’s clear that that approach won’t work.”
While he doesn’t apologize for his immigration screw up, he at least acknowledges that his “Gang of Ocho” Senate bill was a failure.
