Jeb Bush will run for president in 2016, and if he decides to pull out from the race, or refrains from entering it at all, it will most likely be because of the diminished support he will have received from grassroots conservatives who see him as a hack for illegal immigration.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Senator Marco Rubio runs for president as well, why not, if he fails to get any traction in 2015, he could then use the money raised to fund his Senate re-election campaign. He doesn’t have to qualify for his Senate seat until 2016, and a Rubio Senate run will only help Bush, “if” he wins the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.
But there is a snag with that plan. According to one of Rubio’s close friends and advisors, Rubio does want to be in the U.S. Senate. The source told the SHARK TANK this in late 2013, long before Republicans took back the U.S. Senate, maybe Rubio has changed his mind, now that he can probably advance his agenda.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
If Rubio decides to run for re-election and backs a Jeb Bush presidential campaign, political life will get a bit tricky for the “American son,” as conservative base will skewer him for doing so.
The Miami Herald has this to say:
Rubio met with top donors two weeks ago to consider his options, according to Politico. And the Rubio Victory Committee emailed backers last week to attend the fourth annual “Team Marco” event Jan. 23-24 at the Delano Hotel on South Beach. The joint fund-raising committee benefits Rubio’s Senate campaign and his Reclaim America Political Action Committee.Among big names in Miami Republican politics — even Cuban Americans who consider Rubio their chosen son — loyalties lie with the more seasoned Bush.
“We’ve always been with Jeb,” former U.S. Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart of Miami said earlier this month, referring to himself and his brother, U.S. Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart. He made the comments at a U.S.-Cuba Democracy PAC event where Bush spoke, and where many other Cuban exiles also made clear that the former governor gets first dibs for their support.
The last “Team Marco” retreat at the Eden Rock hotel on Miami Beach was very lightly attended.
Maybe donors flew further south than expected?
Rubio has been walking on thin ice with conservatives after he co-sponsored the Senate’s “Gang of Eight” amnesty-light immigration reform bill in 2013, and according to several Rubio supporters and high-dollar donors, a move to dust off that immigration reform “Marcophone” and dial up support for Jeb would solidify him as a supporter of illegal immigration, leaving them no choice but to withhold from donating to his Senate campaign.Critics of Rubio, and the pro-legal immigration lobby will be yelling “I told ya so” atop the highest political mountain.
Illegal immigration is the existential issue that we Americans must contend with, if we want to keep our identity of being the United States of America, and not the United States of Amigos.
