We are less than 30 days away from a major election, and races across the nation are quickly racing for November. In Florida, Republican incumbent Governor Rick Scott has a lead (if that) against former republican turned independent turned democrat turned opportunist, Governor Charlie Crist. In Iowa, Joni Ernst has a 6 point lead against her democratic opponent. And in Florida’s most watched congressional race, Carlos Curbelo is challenging Joe Garcia in the heavily contested South Florida race.In 2010, David Rivera was elected to the US Congress. During his campaign for re-election, The Miami Herald reported that the congressman and his political associates may have potentially provided secret funding for a shadow candidate, to act as a democrat “straw” candidate and challenge Garcia in the Democratic primary. The idea being that if the shadow candidate won the primary, he would be an easy opponent to Rivera. The owner of a campaign mailing company who was doing the shadow candidate’s mailers, Rivera had direct knowledge and provided assistance to the candidate’s campaign and even personally giving over the cash to pay for it. Rivera is now under FBI investigation regarding this. Rivera would later go on to lose his congressional seat to Garcia.
But, the plot thickens – because Garcia’s staff has also been the subject of FBI investigation as well. In 2013, Garcia’s chief of staff resigned after having had admitted to a plot in which the campaign would submit fake absentee ballot requests for the primary election. This lead to the investigation and raiding of homes of both Garcia’s communications director and campaign manager.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
But brighter times are ahead for this south florida district, if Carlos Curbelo gets his way. Curbelo is a Miami School Board member challenging Garcia. The race has turned nasty very quickly, and the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) is coming to the rescue of Curbelo, who is the favorite to win the election. The NRCC plans to spend nearly 2.6 Million dollars in advertising for Curbelo. It is close to double its original commitment, ramping up its support for Curbelo and potentially providing the final boost needed to carry him over the finish line.
On the other hand, Democrats have been sluggish to put any real commitment behind their candidate, Garcia. The National Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has promised almost a third of what the NRCC has promised, with just 900,000 worth of advertising. Katie Prill, the NRCC’s spokeswoman doubled down on Garcia, and put him on notice for what’s yet to come:
“Joe Garcia already has 99 problems but the NRCC is about to give him one more. Garcia refuses to come clean about his role in the absentee-ballot fraud scandal that sent his chief of staff to prison and the federal investigation on the Garcia campaign’s involvement in funding a straw candidate. Rest assured South Florida families will get to see just how corrupt Joe Garcia is with our TV ads this fall.”This election promises to be an interesting one, and Shark-Tank will keep you up to date on every development.
