I guess Democrats feel the Florida Governor Rick Scott is “not down with the struggle” when it comes to appointed judgeships within the states judicial system.
Democrats like State Senator Arthenia Joyner (D-Tampa) are all but calling Scott a racist for appointing fewer black attorneys to judgeships than past governors Bush and Crist.“He has no interest in diversity… “He wants to stack the courts with people who think like him. It’s that corporate mentality that he brought to the governor’s office.” –State Sen. Arthenia Joyner, D-Tampa
The Tampa Bay Times put out a story outlining that Scott has only appointed nine black, or African-Americans attorneys to judgeships since becoming governor of Florida.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
“What I’m focused on is making sure that the people I appoint understand that there are three branches of government and that they don’t get to legislate… They don’t get to pass laws, just like I don’t get to pass laws.”-Gov. Rick Scott
According to the Times, “statewide, 84 percent of judges are white, 9 percent are Hispanic and 6.6 percent are black, according to data from the court system,” adding that when Scott came into office back in 2011, the amount black judges sitting on the bench was higher than it is now by a whopping .3 percent.
“The governor appoints candidates to judicial office who will serve with humility and respect the rule of law.” John TuppsFormer Gov. Bush had appointed 22 black judges up to this point in his tenure, including Peggy Quince, the first black female justice on the Supreme Court, a choice he approved along with Democratic Gov. Lawton Chiles, days before Chiles died in 1998.
In direct comparison, Scott has appointed black attorneys to judgeships 5.7 percent of the time. Crist’s overall record was 8.3 percent and Bush’s was 10 percent.
Scott has appointed Hispanics to judgeships in 10 percent of all cases and women 35 percent of the time.
Don’t think that this anti-Black play against Scott is not political, as recent polls have Scott leading or tied with Crist. Crist has been actively seeking the black vote, and has been attending, and holding campaign events at black churches around the state.
Just last seek in Miami, Florida, Crist held a campaign event at the New Birth Baptist Church where the pastor or deacon that gave the invocation, referred to Rick Scott as the “terrorist in Tallahassee.”
