Sergeant James Edwards, a 25 year police officer with the Miami Dade Police department is now locked up under house arrest – charged with charged with lewd and lascivious conduct and exhibition. On August 11, the officer, James Hurley Edwards III, invited two young male neighbors, aged 15 and 16 to “assist him with fixing his landscaping”. But Officer Edwards had other plans for the two young boys. He picked up the two boys in his police cruiser, and wearing his police uniform. When they arrived at Edwards’ house, he offered one of the boys Honey Whiskey, marijuana in a bong, as well as “molly” or better known as ecstasy. This was solely the beginning of Edward’s sex and drug fueled behavior, culminating with the sexual molestation of the two boys.
After consuming ecstasy himself, Edwards demanded that the young boy blow the marijuana smoke in his face and displayed a pornographic video on his television. After repeatedly groping the victim, the officer offered to the young boy the following proposition:
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
“Why don’t we go upstairs, [you commit sexual acts on me]…we shake hands, and call it a day”
The officer later admitted to the crime, and a search warrant of the officer’s home turned up marijuana and ecstasy.
The Miami-Dade police department is investigating the issue. Edwards has been relieved of his duties.Such egregious abuses of power are not uncommon within police circles, as many have been known to abuse their power to make innocent civilians suffer at their hands. What is so interesting about this particular case, however, is that it is one of the first documented cases of police abuse of power in sexual behavior. Edward’s use of his police cruiser, uniform, badge, and title, all constituted as aid to his sexual abuse of these innocent children.
Officer Edwards should receive the maximum sentence for his crimes, and Florida law needs to be changed to reflect the rise in abuse of police powers. Police should have a triple mandatory minimum in Florida. Whereas, if a police officer is convicted of a crime, they should have a mandatory minimum sentence of triple the punishment. Police have one set of rules for themselves, another set of rules for everyone else.
This is still an ongoing story, so stay tuned to Shark-Tank for more information as it becomes available. We will continue to hold those who commit crimes accountable in the court of public opinion.
