U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC) seems to have a history of avoiding tough questions. On Monday, North Carolina reporters tried to ask Hagan to comment on important issues related to the Veterans’ Affairs scandal, but she dissed them.
Senator Kay Hagan (D-NC) met with senior officials and staff at the Fayetteville VA Medical Center Monday to get an update on shortening the wait times for veterans seeking medical care at the facility.Hagan’s meeting Monday was closed to the media and she did not speak to reporters afterwards – citing the need to catch a flight back to Washington. She does plan to meet with reporters Tuesday.

So reporters in Washington, DC, are okay for Hagan to talk to — but not in her home state? During an election year?
When the first reports of long wait times at VA medical facilities and possible deaths of vets, Hagan inexplicably refused to comment for a month. When Hagan finally did issue a statement, she refused to call for then-VA Secretary Erick Shinseki to resign. Shinseki eventually stepped down — but Hagan has been MIA as this scandal has gone from bad to worse.
