The Tampa Bay Times’ Alex Leary is reporting that top Democrat U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va), who is retiring from the Senate this year, said that Florida’s senior Senator Bill Nelson, almost challenged Charlie Crist in Florida’s 2014 Democrat gubernatorial primary.
“I was afraid he was going to run for governor,” Rockefeller said. “He went back and forth,” Rockefeller says, the most direct link to talk that Nelson has considered challenging Gov. Rick Scott. “We talked a lot. And I was always lobbying him to stay here.”
Asked what Nelson’s argument for a gubernatorial bid was, he said: “Because he could be” governor.
“Crist is no gem,” Rockefeller added.-TB Times
After mulling over a possible gubernatorial run, Nelson is now saying that he has “no intention of running.”
Crist is the obvious frontrunner in the Democrat gubernatorial primary, but will have to eventually answer the calls for a debate against former state Senator Nan Rich, who has been hounding him to debate her.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
If Crist’s debate skills are anything like he displayed back in the 2010 Senate race against Marco Rubio, or how he just carried himself in an interview on Fusion TV, Nan Rich will have a field day with Republican-turned-Independent-turned-Democrat.
