The U.S. Veteran’s Administration has been called to provide more accountability for itself, after reports have surfaced about the department’s backlog of disability benefits, and the growing toll of 31 preventable veteran deaths at VA medical facilities around the country, including the hospital in Miami, Florida.
Florida’s U.S. Senator Marco Rubio and Representative Jeff Miller have introduced the VA Management Accountability Act of 2014 in their respective chambers of Congress. The bill would “empower” VA Secretary Eric Shinseki and future secretaries to terminate underperforming VA executives. Several veteran groups, including The American Legion, Concerned Veterans for America, AMVETS, and the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, all approve of the bill calling for more transparency and accountability at the VA.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
But while these veteran’s groups an Republican elected officials in Washington, D.C. have praised the Rubio-Miller move to change they way the VA operates, it is understandable that because of their support of big government and unions, not one Democrat Senator has signed on to support bill.
With Florida having the second greatest number of veterans in the country with 1.6 million currently residing in the sunshine state, you would think that veteran U.S. Army Captain, Senator Bill Nelson would have been the first Democrat to jump on board in support of veterans.
Nelson has a long history of supporting veterans, so you would expect the senior Senator to be “front-and-center” on this issue.
