U.S. Senator Marco Rubio is getting back in front of his 2010 base of support with scheduled appearances in Palm Beach and Cape Coral, Florida, as well keynoting the 2014 Jacksonville and Miami-Dade GOP Lincoln Day Dinners.
Rubio’s ascension to the top of the national political ranks took a nose dive when he introduced his controversial 2013 amnesty-lite “Gang of Eight” immigration reform bill in the Senate. After the bill’s introduction, the political smack down he endured from conservatives around the country, especially in his home state of Florida, was unprecedented.
Within a week or so of the bills introduction, Team Rubio was quickly trying to put out the damaging firestorm that he caused, damage to his brand that is still evident today, as the once uber popular Senator has fallen from grace.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Because of this asinine push for immigration reform, Rubio has been labeled a “traitor” a “phony” and someone that “cannot be trusted” by the very same people who helped elect him to the U.S. Senate.
In the recent CPAC Presidential straw poll, Rubio place a distance 7th place. But now Rubio is finally listening to someone who is looking out for his best interest, and who has proposed that Rubio confront his base head on. (Pictured-Rubio’s 2010 Senatorial campaign bus tour)
Now, going to GOP Lincoln Day dinners is not necessarily a huge grassroots stretch, but it is a start.
Rubio should consider setting up statewide town hall meetings, like the ones he conducted when he ran for the Senate in 2010. He can name it the “Rubio’s Back To Basics” town hall series.
In my opinion, Rubio can reverse some of the damage he did to his brand, and the only way of doing this is to confront those who feel he has betrayed them.
Can Rubio come back from his? Only time will tell.
