The special election race in Florida’s 13th congressional district between Republican David Jolly, Democrat Alex Sink, and Libertarian Lucas Overby, is a virtual toss-up.
According to the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections, as of last week Friday, a total of 44,326 mailed ballots have been returned, with the Republicans holding a slight lead over Democrats in the number of those ballots.Overby could prove to be the spoiler for Republicans, as some will tell you that in a close race like this, Libertarians tend to want to make a statement, and push to get as many Republican-leaning Libertarians to vote for their candidate, which almost always benefits the Democrat in the race.
Regardless of the fact that Libertarians don’t have a chance in el infierno (Hell) of winning this special congressional election, Republicans can bank on the fact that Democrat Alex Sink is in lock-step with the Democrat Party’s liberal agenda in the U.S. House of Representatives, and is a fervent supporter of the failed Stimulus Act of 2009, and Obamacare.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Jolly and the Republican congressional apparatus have tied Obamacare firmly around Sink’s throat, even as she has tried to distance herself from the job-killing law.
But unfortunately for her, Sink just about sank her chances of convincing voters that she was really a centrist, when she regurgitated House Minority leader Nancy Pelosi’s talking point that Obamacare would enable Americans to avoid healthcare “job-lock.”
Here is Pelosi’s full remark:
“Yesterday, the CBO projected that by 2021, the Affordable Care Act will enable more than 2 million workers to escape ‘job-lock’ — the situation where workers remain tied to employers for access to health insurance benefits.”-Rep. Nancy Pelosi
Here is Sink’s remark:
And then there is this little issue about her tie to ponzi-schemer Scott Rothstein. We all heard Rothstein’s recent allegations that Democrat gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist sold judgeships in Broward County, while he was Florida’s governor.“I’ve had so many people express to me, boy Alex, I would love to start a business, or I’d love to change jobs, but I can’t because I’ve got good health insurance at my workplace now and I’m stuck in a dead end job, and I’m not very happy in it, but I have to stay in it.-Alex Sink
Back before Rothstein was busted, Sink’s gubernatorial campaign and the Democrat Party of Florida, were the beneficiaries of tens of thousands of campaign dollars from Rothstein and his law associates. The state Democrat Party once even received a whopping $200,000 donation from Rothstein and his law firm.
We can only assume that Sink didn’t know about Rothstein’s corruption until he was indicted, considering that many other politicians were fooled as well, but her judgment can still be called into question.
Here is what I wrote back in 2010 about Sink’s ties to Rothstein:
At last year’s Associated Press meeting of reporters, Sink was quoted as saying that the “first rule of business is to know who you’re dealing with.”
Well, there are oversights, and there are oversights. It is incomprehensible for Sink to not have vetted Mr. Rothstein– even as rumblings of his shady dealings were whispered rumors around Florida’s political circles. But Sink was apparently much more interested in taking Rothstein’s donations- donations that would have the added benefit of stinging the GOP like pouring salt into an open wound. And even though Sink returned the contributions after Rothstein’s indictment, there may be no other Democrat running this election cycle that is more owned by special interests than Alex Sink.
Alex Sink is trying to run as a post-partisan, middle of the road type of campaign to appeal to all of Florida’s voters, employing as much conservative-sounding rhetoric as possible to cloak what really is a liberal agenda.
But Sink cannot explain away her support for the disastrous Obama Stimulus plan or her support for Government-run healthcare – “ObamaCare”- both of which she campaigned for, just as Charlie Crist did
Running as a centrist seems to be Sink’s modus operandi, but her support for the widely unpopular Obamacare law may very well prove to be the political torpedo that sunk her campaign.
