Former Republican-turned-Democrat Governor Charlie Crist, launched his book signing tour in the city where he and President Barack Obama shared that magical “hug,” which eventually led to his 2010 Senate race loss to Senator Marco Rubio.
Crist was greeted by 100+ fans looking to get their copy of his book signed, but was also greeted by at least 20 protesters standing just outside the Books-A-million store in Fort Myers, Florida, waiving Republican Party of Florida supplied “Hug-iversary” signs.Exactly five years ago today, I was in Fort Myers and had the audacity to embrace the President, literally, and the Recovery Act, and I know it was the right thing to do, it saved tens of thousands of jobs for teachers…”-Charlie Crist

While addressing the press inside of the bookstore, Crist gave a quick recap of the book, telling reporters the reason he “went from Republican, to an Independent, to a Democrat-the people’s party,” adding the he was “privileged to be a Democrat, and also running for Governor.”
So now the Democrat Party is “the people’s party?”
When asked about the recent allegations that he sold Broward County, Florida judges in exchange for political favors, allegations which were made against him by his former friend Scott Rothstein in open court, Crist stated that the allegations were “completely false.”Crist then stated that he did the right thing in supporting the Stimulus Act of 2009, adding that he was “the peoples governor.” Since he felt it was the right thing to do for Floridians, we tried ask him why he left the governor’s mansion to run for the Senate, but Crist was quick to cut off the question, and do what he does best, dance around answering a question directly.
Crist attempted to answer by saying that what he was most proud of in his first term as governor, was that he “brought people together,” adding that the reason he ran for the U.S. Senate in the first place, was because he hoped to take a “cooperative spirit that Floridians share to Washington,” but unfortunately for him, it didn’t work out.
