The team that will be charged with Florida Governor Rick Scott’s behemoth of a re-election a campaign is finally taking shape, as Scott’s Communications Director, Melissa Sellers, will run the show on the ground, and Republican Party of Florida’s main mouthpiece, Matt Moon, will now take control of communications for the campaign.
Moon is credited with delivering one of the heaviest smack downs in recent Florida media and political history on liberal Daily Kos and SaintPravdaBlog blogger, Peter “Big Boy” Schorsch, after Schorsch inexplicably announced that former Congressman Bill Young (R) died two days before he really did die.Schorsch reaffirmed that not only is he an amateur politico, but lacks any media credibility, and should not be taken seriously.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Sellers confirmed to the Shark Tank that there was no set date for a formal campaign kick off, even though Scott has already filed for re-election. Sellers also wouldn’t or couldn’t elaborate more on the other new additions to the Scott campaign, other than what was already reported by Miami Herald, also said that Scott’s COS, Adam Hollingsworth was staying put.
Sen. John Thrasher, R-St. Augustine, will be chairman of Scott’s re-election effort.
Thrasher, the campaign chairman, will be a key strategist and is an ally of Hollingsworth. Thrasher briefly surfaced in speculation as a possible lieutenant governor. The Senate Rules Committee chairman ran the state GOP following the demise of former chairman Jim Greer.* Miguel Fernandez and Darlene Jordan will be co-finance chairs. Fernandez is chairman of MBF Partners, a major health care firm based in Coral Gables. Jordan is a former Masasachusetts assistant attorney general who was a national finance co-chair for Mitt Romney in 2008.
* Tim Saler will be deputy campaign manager, overseeing media, voter contact, political and field operations. He has been deputy executive director for political strategy at the Republican Party of Florida and before that, was director of strategy at the Republican Party of Wisconsin and executive director of the Mississippi Republican Party.
So when will Scott’s re-election campaign actually kick-off?
I believe the safe bet on when the mega-campaign will roll out will be shortly after the 2014 leglislative session concludes. Remember, Scott is in no hurry to announce, he doesn’t have to be, he is already sitting on billions of dollars. Ok, I exaggerated a bit. Scott is sitting on millions of dollars in campaign contributions.
Once the 2014 state budget dust settles, Scott’s campaign will kick into high gear, but for now, expect Moon, Sellers and the rest of the ‘Scottsies’ to be quietly working the campaign roll out at their HQ, which for what ever reason, probably remain in Tallahassee. After all, Scott’s entire campaign team, besides pollster and campaign brain, Tony ‘Macaluso’ Fabrizio, is currently living there.
