Two days before the story broke that Democratic Congressman Alan Grayson failed to properly vet an official of a Geneva-based human rights group, whose president was designated as a top Al Qaeda official in Yemen, Grayson released a statement asking for President Obama to release another convicted terrorist from prison, Oscar Lopez-Rivera.
*Note-The invite sent to the individual to address members of the Democratic caucus in the House on U.S. drone strikes in Yemen was organized by Code Pink. Grayson, along with two other members of the Democrats, announced that they would be sitting in on the meeting, and have subsequently stated that they didn’t not have anything to do with the organization of this event.Even still, a simple Google search of the organization and its officials, or State Department vetting request by Democrats, would have uncovered red flags.
Lopez Rivera was a leader in the FALN terrorist group that placed and detonated 117 bombs, which killed 5 people throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s. Lopez Rivera has been denied release by the overseeing parole board until 2026, but not extreme leftist organizations and politicians, like Grayson, are asking for his release.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
In February 2011, Lopez-Rivera’s had his attorney request parole for him, but prison officials denied it.
“I am constantly approached regarding the imprisonment of Oscar López-Rivera. My constituents, a significant number of Puerto Ricans, and political leaders from all three major political parties in Puerto Rico are pleading for his release. Mr. López-Rivera’s 71st birthday is in four days, on Three Kings Day, or ‘Día de Reyes’ as it is known in Puerto Rico. I can think of no greater gift to him, his family, and the Puerto Rican community than his freedom and allowing him to return home on this important holiday.”- Rep. Alan Grayson (D)
One thing to note about Lopez-Rivera is this, he is an unrepentant criminal, who never express regret or asked for clemency for the crimes he was convicted for. Even when President Bill Clinton extended clemency to FALN terrorists back in 1997, Lopez-Rivera refused the get-out-of-jail card, stating that he would not leave prison, until all of his fellow FALN terrorists associates were released.
Lopez-Rivera has served 32 years of a 70 years prison sentence for seditious conspiracy, use of force to commit robbery, interstate transportation of firearms and ammunition to aid in the commission of a felony, and interstate transportation of stolen vehicles.
Hmm, sounds like an upstanding citizen. Not.
Grayson is obviously pandering for votes from Hispanics, who make up 42% of his congressional district. Republican Jorge Bonilla, the Navy veteran gunning to unseat Grayson in the 2014 mid-term elections, could not be reached for comment.
