Florida Congressman Tom Rooney (R) has just asked the House of Representatives to hold off on sending him a paycheck. Rooney said that he will refuse to get paid until the government shutdown ends.“How could I justify cashing a paycheck from the taxpayers while the government is shut down because we couldn’t do our job?” Rooney said. “Until we can put an end to this shutdown, I have directed the House of Representatives to withhold my pay.”-Rep. Tom Rooney (R-FL)
Rooney has cosponsored the “Pay Our Veterans and Seniors First Act,” H.R. 3152, which would prohibit pay for Members of Congress, the President and the Vice President during the shutdown, while ensuring that America’s troops, veterans and seniors continue to receive their full pay and benefits.
