Democratic Congressman Alan Grayson (FL) has come under fire for “hailing” the creation of what he calls “stealth socialism.” Grayson made his “stealth socialism” remark during an interview with Salon.com, sending the Twitter universe and blogosphere into a frenzy, for what was perceived as Grayson openly praising the creation of socialism in the United States.Grayson’s Republican congressional opponent, Jorge Bonilla, was quick to pounce on the statement, saying that because of “his votes for Obamacare, the stimulus and anti-business Dodd-Frank legislation, Mr. Grayson is jointly responsible for this administration’s abysmal failure to create jobs or improve the economy.”
Bonilla also ” suggested Grayson explain the benefits of “stealth socialism” to all those whose hours have been cut, who have lost their jobs, or “who have been dropped from their health care coverage due to the onerous mandates that he voted for.”-Blaze

Here is Grayson’s exact statement:
We’ve had a government takeover of the bond market. Stealth socialism’s been created. Government simply ends up owning more and more and more. If government had taken over the steel industry, maybe it would have been more noticeable. They’ve taken over the financing of housing industry as well, with a desired result. The result is now, finally, particularly in areas that were hard-hit, like mine in Central Florida, housing is ticking up again. So the Fed did in essence create an economic baseline that has led to something along the lines of 50,000-100,000 jobs created a month, setting a foundation for recovery for the U.S. economy.-Rep. Alan Grayson (D)
In response to the Shark Tank’s request for comment or clarification regarding the remark, Grayson’s campaign Communication Director, Todd Jurkowski, stated that the “the term ‘stealth socialism” was made to “criticize the Fed’s policy, not praise it.”
“Congressman Grayson used the term ‘stealth socialism’ to criticize the Fed’s policy, not to praise it. Congressman Grayson has a well-documented and respected record of skepticism about Fed policies.”-Todd Jurkowski, Grayson Campaign
Grayson, who occasionally finds himself siding with Republicans and Libertarians alike, has had some epic exchanges with officials of the federal government, including a showdown with the Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, and another with one of his subordinates.
