U.S. Senator John McCain appeared on Fox News to make the case for a military strike against Syria’s Assad government for their “undeniable” use of chemical weapons against the Syrian people.McCain naively believes that “the right people” or “freedom fighters,” as he called them, can be trusted and armed with “the right weapons.” These are the same “Freedom Fighters” that have entrenched Islamic militants within their ranks.
I know for a fact that they are the right people we can get the right weapons. To say that we don’t is not telling the truth.-Senator John McCain
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
When asked how the U.S. could achieve any military objectives it may undertake, McCain stated that the military options would be targeting air fields, Syria’s Air Force, and fuel storage facilities, but said that we must “never put American boots on the ground.”
McCain said that the U.S. has been “passively” observing the situation in Syria, and that they Syrian conflict goes far beyond the country’s borders, and could engulf the entire region.
The senior Senator then brought up former Secretary of State Colin Powell’s 2003 UN Security Council address, where he made the case for a “First Strike” against Iraq, for their stockpiling of weapons of mass destruction.
McCain seems to be doubting the actionable intelligence the U.S. had about Iraq’s WMD’s.
I think that there is a tremendous blow to American credibility when our secretary of state went to the United Nations Security Council and alleged that there were weapons of mass destruction that Saddam Hussein had, I don’t think there is any doubt about that, that is history, and obviously that created a credibility gap not only in the region, but amongst the American people but in this case, it is without a doubt these chemical weapons have been used.-Sen. John McCain
Prior to Powell’s’ address to the UN, President Bill Clinton himself called Iraq “a rouge state with weapons of mass destruction” and was “ready to use them.
U.S. Soldiers entered abandoned Iraqi chemical storage facilities, only to find a few hundred canisters of WMD’s left behind after the caches of the weapons were obviously moved.
