Every August the U.S. Congress goes on recess, and members go back to their respective states to reconnect with their constituents, who are usually treated to publicly held events to get them up-to-speed on what exactly is going on in Washington, D.C. Members also take time off to catch up with family and do much needed campaign fundraising, but with the upcoming budget debate about defunding Obamacare, most of the big political figures campaigning to defund the healthcare law, are out holding town hall meetings and interacting with their very base of support. All except for one.
While Senators Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and Mike Lee are out holding these town hall meetings-Lee having planned six town hall events alone- and Rand Paul actually performing eye surgeries, Senator Marco Rubio is missing in Action.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Rubio, who co-sponsored the amnesty-lite ‘Gang of Eight’ immigration reform bill in the Senate, spent a few days quietly meeting with ‘some’ constituents, but mostly talking to business groups about the ills of Obamacare. While Florida’s junior Senator has also visited military installations, Rubio has not held a town hall meeting, nor does he have any scheduled.
The upcoming Defending the American Dream Summit in Orlando on August 30-31 has Rubio scheduled to address the attendees of the Americans for Prosperity sponsored conference. What will be interesting to see is how he is received by the very people he upset when he changed his immigration reform position. I don’t expect him to be heckled, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he receives a few boos.
Is Rubio hiding from the grassroots because he is afraid to be heckled and confronted about immigration reform, probably? But there is still about ten business days left in the August recess for Rubio to possibly pull something out of his hat. Stay tuned…“Like and share” the story.
