The number of members (108) of the 113th Congress, who have served in the Military is only 20% of the total membership, down 10 from the prior Congress. This decline in military service by members of Congress has been trending for the years, and not since the 92nd Congress was able to boast about the 73% military service of its members in 1971-1972, has that number of military-trained Representatives been over 60%.Many seem to think that having military service grounds an individual, making him or her a better candidate for Congress. I tend to agree. While only 20% of Congress has military experience, expect more former U.S. Servicemen and woman to walk the halls of Congress, now that the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have come to a close.
In Florida, there are only a handful of members of Congress with military experience. Here are some pictures of Congressmen, both past and present, who wore the uniform.

Rep.Tom Rooney (R) getting gased–Thanks for the pic!

Rep. Ron DeSantis (R)–Currently serving in the U.S. Navy Reserves

Fmr. Congressman Allen West–Something tells me he will be back…
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Here is the current short list of Florida’s Congressional delegation with military experience-
Rep. Rich Nugent (R)–Air National Guard
Rep. Vern Buchanan (R)–Air National Guard
Rep. C.W. Young (R)– Army National Guard
Rep. Tom Rooney (R)–U.S. Army
Rep. Ron DeSantis (R)–U.S. Navy
