Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh said on his radio show that Senator Marco Rubio is Reaganesque, and that many Republicans are willing to give Rubio a pass on this immigration reform bill because they consider him to be the next “great hope” for the Republican Party in 2016 and beyond.
Rush’s remarks came after a caller questioned Rubio’s co-sponsoring of the bill, a day after the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) stated that even if this ‘Gang of Eight’ immigration reform bill that will cost Americans trillions of dollars is signed into law, 75% of the existing illegal immigration problem will persist.
Rush expressed his frustration about the immigration bill not stopping illegal immigration by saying, “what’s the point?!”
The chief opponent of the Senate immigration reform bill, Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions, who has been picking about the bill calling it outright amnesty for illegal immigrants
CBO analysts did say the bill is written ambiguously so that it’s possible newly legalized immigrants or others would be eligible for food stamps or college aid. The analysts said newly legalized immigrants would likely be able to get unemployment benefits if they lost their jobs and met the criteria of their state’s unemployment program-Washington Times
“This bill guarantees three things: amnesty, increased welfare costs, and lower wages for the U.S. workforce”-Sen. Jeff Sessions
If the immigration bill passes in the U.S.Senate, it will most likely die in the U.S. House of Representatives. Conservatives and Republicans alike believe that Rubio may have dug himself a political grave by standing along side liberal Democratic Senators Dick Durbin and Chuck Schumer, in cosponsoring this Obamacare-esque immigration bill that does not do what Rubio has said it would do, secure the border and prevent illegal immigration.
The “next great hope” for the GOP could very well have casted himself as being the next great joke.
