The Republican-led Florida Legislature is split on whether or not to receive federal dollars tied to the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). Senator Joe Negron’s healthcare bill that would accept more than $50 billion of those pesky federal dollars and “offer coverage to more than 1 million Floridians” under Obamacare, has passed the Senate.
According to the AP, “the bill would not expand Medicaid but give money to residents to purchase private insurance.” House Speaker Will Weatherford and his fellow representatives are standing their ground, and are not willing to accept any dollars that are tied to Obamacare.
State representatives have passed a law that would use $237 million “in state funds” to give 115,000 Floridians healthcare. Either way you slice it, whether its federal or state funded healthcare, its still government assistance.
