Andrew and I spoke for hours prepping for the Univision show, on how they were going to go after him for being who he was.Needless to say, Andrew was ecstactic that I was able to get him on a spanish-language poltical program. I warned him of the pro-amnesty for illegal immigrants angle the host Jorge Ramos would take, and most likely try to paint him and the teaparty as racists.
The interview, quite frankly, is a master clinic on how to deal with Ramos’ fixed race and immigration narratives, and should be mandatory viewing for anyone who has the intention of speaking to these issues in the public arena. Take, especially, good notes on how Andrew handled assimilation, immigration, and Ramos’ “English-only” strawman arguments.
Despite Ramos’ pleasantries at the end, this would be Andrew’s sole appearance on Al Punto.
