Florida’s contentious U.S. Senate race between Democrat Senator Bill Nelson and Congressman Connie Mack is unable to extract itself out of the political gutter, as Nelson continues to attack Mack on his past personal indiscretions rather than engaging in a campaign that defends his record or discusses the issues.
Nelson continues to mock Mack for once being employed by the Florida-based restaurant chain Hooters. Is it really such a badge of dishonor to be associated with Hooter’s? I’d wager that most voters think not, especially the hardworking folks who either work at Hooter’s or who hold a job in the restaurant business who are more interested in the candidates’ stand on the issues that matter rather than petty, amateurish attacks.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Recall the fiscally reckless High Speed Rail initiative that President Obama and Senator Nelson supported and proposed for Floridians, which was derailed by Florida’s Republican Governor Rick Scott.
The High Speed Rail project was to be initially funded by Obama’s failed Stimulus Act that Nelson’s friend former Governor Charlie Crist wholeheartedly supported against the wishes of most Floridians. Obama, Crist and Nelson shortsightedly supported high speed rail because they felt the measure would not receive any significant opposition or pushback, which turned out not to be the case.
Incredibly, regardless of the cost or practicality of the system, Senator Nelson equated the high speed rail initiative with the construction of the Eisenhower Interstate Highway system of the 1950’s. Nelson ridiculously demagogued Governor Scott’s efforts to quash the program by stating “can you imagine if a governor had tried to kill the proposal by President Dwight Eisenhower, years ago, when he set up the Interstate Highway system?”Will Nelson be able to continue to skirt the issues and avoid defending his record for the remainder of the campaign? Stay tuned…
