Back in January of this year, Senator Nelson complained on the Senate floor about how he believed the Republican Party in Florida was actively suppressing the minority vote in Florida. Nelson went as far as to say that it was blacks who were specifically being targeted by Republicans. Nelson first tried to assert that Republicans were targeting all minorities, but he then clarified that it was “African Americans” who would now be “suppressed” because they wouldn’t be able to vote after church services on the Sunday before the general election.
Nelson asserted that “many minorities found it convenient when they could get away from work to vote early,” apparently not giving consideration to the fact that many folks who can’t classify themselves as a “minority” also have to plan their schedule accordingly and set aside an hour to vote on Election Day.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
Nelson charged that Florida’s new voting law is “one of the most onerous” and “one of the more distinct voter suppression laws that has been enacted”- so in Nelson’s mind, allocating eight days of early voting before Election Day simply isn’t enough time for only minorities, single moms, and young people- every major Democrat constituency group- to vote. If you’re not a member of one of Nelson’s “victim” groups, eight days of early voting is enough for you to manage. Nelson obviously believes that these groups are either too lazy or stupid to take the initiative to register and attend a polling place to cast their own ballots within eight days.
Well guess who has voted in record numbers after church on the Sunday before the Tuesday election, record numbers, African Americans, and so, Mr. President, they will not be able to go and vote on the Sunday before the election. – Senator Bill Nelson (D)
Senator Nelson is locked in a contentious senatorial race with Congressman Connie Mack, and from the looks of it, the race between Nelson and Mack could very well be decided by the who wins the state between Romney and Obama.
