As expected, Republican congressional candidate Karen Harrington convincingly won her primary race over her four primary opponents, winning herself 48% of the total vote. Joe Kaufman, her nearest competitor came in second with 20% of the vote.
Harrington’s strong grass roots efforts along with her established name recognition among Republicans were the deciding factors in the race, and she will once again face off against Democrat Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz in the general election.
Harrington wasted no time in reiterating her request for Wasserman Schultz to release her tax returns and also challenged the DNC Chair/Congresswoman to five debates. The Republican congressional nominee also seems poised to target Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz’s very core,her ideology

Karen Harrington Wins GOP Primary Race, Challenges Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz to Five Debates
Our campaign’s victory in yesterday’s Republican primary election was a testament to the hard work and dedication of our supporters throughout South Florida, as well as across the country- people from all walks of life who are concerned about the direction our nation is headed and believe that we must send representatives to Congress who will inspire and lead, not demagogue and fear monger.
Our goal is clear- to defeat Debbie Wasserman Schultz, President Barack Obama’s most divisive surrogate, and to restore accountable representation to the 23rd congressional district that its constituents rightly expect from their elected officials.
Over the past two years, my opponent has become far too preoccupied travelling across the country rallying support for President Obama’s extreme ideology and failed agenda, rather than representing the congressional district she was elected to serve.
To this point, my opponent has ignored our campaign’s request to release her tax returns even though she continues to demand that her political opponents release theirs. In the interests of transparency, we once again call on my opponent, Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz to release her own tax returns.
In addition, I am challenging the Congresswoman to no less than five town hall-style debates so the constituents of the 23rd Congressional can make a better, more informed choice as to who should be their representative in Congress.I pledge that our campaign will focus on restoring common sense principles and solutions that will bring an end to the fiscal recklessness and extreme agenda that Debbie Wasserman Schultz has willfully supported throughout her career in Congress.
It’s a choice that the people of the 23rd congressional district most certainly deserve, and our campaign looks forward to contrasting our ideas with those of the Congresswoman.
