Governor Rick Scott toured the ‘Miami tunnel’ project that is currently under construction whose purpose is to facilitate and increase trade at the Port of Miami. The project will consist of two two lane tunnels that are slated to be completed in 2014. Currently, the first of the two tunnels is estimated to being about 4600ft long, and is about 60% completed- about 2800 ft into the project.According to Port of Miami officials, the tunnel project along with a deep dredging project will create thirty thousand new and permanent jobs at the Port of Miami. The Port already employs 180,000 individuals.
