Wasserman Schultz Called On To Release Travel Records

Once again, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz is being called out by Karen Harrington, her Republican congressional opponent, to release her travel records from the time she was first appointed to be the Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairwoman.

Earlier this year, Karen Harrington requested that Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz release her tax returns after Wasserman Schultz had demanded that GOP Presidential nominee Mitt Romney release his past tax returns (see the Weekly Standard story).

In Harrington’s press release from this morning, Harrington stated that Wasserman Schultz has “refused to release the tax returns” and has “resorted to doing what she does best when asked to account for herself-ignore her critics and distract with spin.”

Harrington questioned who was really footing the bill for (Wasserman Schultz’s numerous campaign trips around the country, asking her for “full transparency and accountability”. Remember that in 2008, President Obama campaigned on a platform of “full transparency” in government, and because of his past ‘transparent’ efforts, he received an award it. But interestingly enough, the press was not allowed to cover the awards ceremony- so much for transparency.

Karen Harrington Calls On Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz to Release Her Travel Records

Several weeks back, we asked Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz to release her tax returns after she continued to harangue Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney to release his tax returns going back decades. As expected, not only did Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz refuse to release her tax returns, Wasserman Schultz resorted to doing what she does best when asked to account for herself- ignore her critics and distract with spin.

And while Wasserman Schultz continues to use her bully pulpit as a sitting Member of Congress, she spends far more time these days campaigning across the country on behalf of President Obama and the Democratic National Committee in hopes of reassuring Democratic voters that ‘Hope and Change’ is still a viable alternative to the Republican Party’s principled message of fiscal discipline, smaller government, and greater individual liberty.

Since Debbie’s racking up the frequent flyer miles that go far beyond her usual D.C. to Fort Lauderdale hop, we’d think it’s important for everyone to know- who’s paying for Debbie’s travel expenses these days? In the spirit of full transparency and accountability to those that she’s been elected to serve, Debbie Wasserman Schultz should release her travel records and show taxpayers who’s footing the bill for her travel- beginning from when she was appointed to chair the Democratic National Committee. Is Debbie Wasserman Schultz really as ‘transparent’ a public servant as she claims to be? We’ll soon find out.
