Florida Congressman John Mica (R) is currently in a head to head primary match up with fellow Member of Congress Sandy Adams in the newly drawn 7th congressional district. Mica’s challenge of Adams is increasingly being questioned by those who are turned off by Mica’s recent posturing and comments that have been directed towards freshman Republicans in Congress and now Tea Party activists. Just last week, Mica let go with the following-“When it comes to the new guys, we are talking about amateur hour. These guys need help finding their way to the bathroom.”-Congressman John Mica (Mica’s “Amateur Hour” Congressional Freshman)
As we reported last week, Mica called for a meeting with ten top Florida Tea Party leaders in hopes of obtaining their support for his campaign- or at the very least, hoping to keep these ‘Tea Party’ activists on the sidelines from supporting Congresswoman Sandy Adams.

This meeting did not go as planned for Mica, namely because the Congressman reportedly turned the grassroots leaders off with his “establishment” mentality and “big government” approach to legislating.
Mica’s most recent brushback of the Tea Party activists- people he apparently considers as not very politically savvy- concerns the results of a contested Republican congressional race in Illinois between veteran incumbent Congressman Don Manzullo and freshman member Adam Kinzinger-
Mica, who is running against freshman Republican Sandy Adams, said Manzullo’s defeat is isn’t unsettling. Mica says he takes comfort that, this year, Manzullo had support from Tea Party-allied groups.“Mr Manzullo was a sweetheart for the Tea Party, so was my potential opponent, so I got a little grin on my face today,” he said. Mica’s remark about Tea Party “sweethearts” is likely to close the door between his campaign and the grassroots movement in Florida along with the national organizations that lend them support. FreedomWorks’ Florida Director Tom Gaitens was somewhat surprised at Mica’s brazenness in this instance, but he also believes that Mica is part of the problem that real reformers in Congress are dealing with. Gaitens commented that, “the Tea Party believes that big government Republicans are the same as big government Democrats.”
