Broward County Commissioner Chip LaMarca has told the Shark Tank the he is only “testing the waters” in regards to a possible run for Congress. Certain media outlets have misreported that LaMarca has officially launched a congressional exploratory campaign that would pit him up against former House Majority Leader Adam Hasner in the Republican primary. The Federal Elections Commission allows prospective candidates to spend up to $5000 for polling, research, and other related expenditures before having to file their official intent to run for federal office. According to LaMarca, he has already raised the $5000.Hasner has recently dropped out of the U.S. Senate race and into Congressman Allen West’s soon to be vacant seat. Since he declared his intention to run for Congress, Hasner has been endorsed by West and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.
As to why he is thinking about running for Congress, LaMarca stated that “its worth a look” at running and that “no one has a distinct advantage” in the race. LaMarca is of course referring to Hasner, as he is the only other declared Republican candidate in the race. LaMarca also said that he would run a “respectful” campaign and that a final decision as to whether or not he will run “one way or another” will be made next weekend.
