The GOP’s South Florida Congressional delegation came to Chico’s restaurant in Hialeah to jointly endorse fellow Congressman Connie Mack in his bid for the U.S. Senate. The Miami members of Congress included Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, famous for her ‘Sharkie-Shuffle’ dance moves, David Rivera, Mario Diaz-Balart, and former Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart. The delegation unanimously agreed that Mack is the only candidate in the race who can beat Democrat Senator Bill Nelson and that would be a great working partner with Senator Marco Rubio. While the delegation touted their years of service with Mack in both the Congress and the Florida legislature, there could also be some residual resentment towards former Senator George LeMieux for his position against Rubio early in the 2010 U.S. Senate race.
But then again, both of the Balarts endorsed Governor Crist over Rubio and Ros-Lehtinen stayed on the sidelines, opting to not voice her support for Rubio over Crist. As for Rivera, he stuck his neck out for Rubio since the very beginning and has long been privy to the political chicanery that LeMieux helped orchestrate against Rubio when he was first appointed to the Senate by Governor Charlie Crist.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
It is possible that Mack could run away with the nomination, but LeMieux’s political savviness coupled with his years of political capital and influence should not be discounted. The race has just begun, and anything is still possible in this primary race.
