Republican Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich held a town hall meeting in Naples, Florida to discuss the current state of his campaign as well as to clarify the comments he made a few days earlier as to where exactly he stands on illegal immigration and amnesty for illegal aliens. Gingrich has taken some heat for comments he made during the last presidential debate where he stated his openness to ‘easing’ deportations of illegal aliens who have woven themselves into the landscape of their respective communities for 25 years.Speaker Gingrich emphatically stated that he is against any form of amnesty for illegal aliens but does support a guest worker program of immigrants wanting to work in the United States. Throughout his address to the 750+ attendees and in the subsequent media gaggle, Gingrich seemed bothered that his amnesty bona fides were questioned during the last debate. Gingrich sarcastically referred to his presidential rivals that accused him of supporting amnesty as his “friends.”
