The Republican field of candidates to unseat Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL) has gotten a bit more crowded with the entrance of businessman Osvaldo ‘Ozzie’ deFaria, Jr. into the race. An offspring of immigrants from the Cape Verde Islands with a ‘rags-to-riches’ story, de Faria brings his background of business experience and entrepreneurship to the table as a candidate.Ozzie cleaned a canteen truck in high school and spent five summers working alongside his father, brothers and other extended family members in a Boston sheet metal factory. He then maintained a position on the grounds crew at the University of Maine, and these jobs served as his primary means for funding his college education. –deFaria campaign website
Mr. deFaria is now planning to go head-to-head with frontrunner Karen Harrington, who also has extensive business experience, and Joe Kaufman the founder of Americans Against Hate who does not have any business experience. Both de Faria and Harrington can boast of real world business experience and know-how of creating jobs, albeit within two sectors of the business world.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
If deFaria continues to run on a pro-business platform, he must first address several questionable business dealings in which he is named as defendant in pending civil cases, according to Broward county public records. See more here-Broward County
DeFaria along Harrington, have both given their assurances t that whomever wins the Republican primary will receive their full support defeat incumbent Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. Unfortunately, Kaufman has stated to supporters that if he were to lose in the primary race, that he would not support the winner.
de Faria has boldly challenged both Kaufman and Harrington to a series of debates, but the this challenge appears to have fallen upon deaf ears for the time being. While there has been no comment from the Kaufman camp regarding any debates, Harrington has stated that she will debate in the primary, but only with the candidates who have qualified for the race- that deadline comes in April of 2012. All candidates have until then to officially qualify for the ballot either by petition or by paying the $10k fee to be on the ballot. There are also rumors that other candidates may enter the race as early as November, which makes talk of any debates at this time premature.
