Additionally, Obama’s communications team is looking like a bunch of rank amateurs as they try over and over again to get the details of the raid right. Sure, the details of any military raid could be hazy early on, but why continue to walk back one assertion after another if you are not in possession of a definitive account? And as the Obama Administration dithers in determining whether they should release the pictures of the bloodied and deceased Osama, they are missing the opportunity to greatly undermine the cult status that Osama had garnered throughout the Muslim world, regardless of the sacrifices our people have made to accomplish this objective almost over a decade.
Do you think the 2nd Amendment will be destroyed by the Biden Administration?(2)
At this point in time, two questions that are begging for real answers relating to the operation- if we learned of the location Bin-Laden’s compound back in August 2010, how come it took so long to order and execute a raid? Considering how many times Osama has escaped our grasp, one might think that a raid would have been ordered far sooner given the time-sensitive nature of the operation. But perhaps even more damning- how come President Obama waited 16 hours- including going to bed- before making the “go” call to carry out the assault on Bin-Laden’s compound?
The mission looked set to be given the all clear last Thursday when analysts confirmed beyond doubt that Bin Laden was in busy town of Abbottabad in northern Pakistan. But the president stunned officials when he told a national security meeting that he wanted more time to think – and disappeared out of the room.
‘I’m not going to tell you what my decision is now – I’m going to go back and think about it some more,’ said Obama, according to the New York Times. He then added ‘I’m going to make a decision soon.’ – U.K. Daily Mail
Even as everything was in place and the only thing that remained was an order from the President, Obama still managed to exhibit the pettiness of a child when confronted by the reality that he had to do something that he really did not want to carry out. There was no more “thinking” that had to take place at this stage in the ball game, but Obama likes exerting control for control’s sake- even when lives are on the line and the success of one of the country’s most important military actions lies in the balance.
Obama has a clear record of vacillation when it comes to taking out Muslim terrorists. Recall that Obama also hedged back in 2009 with the Navy’s encounter with Somali pirates, taking days to give the go-ahead to Navy snipers to take out the pirates. More recently, Somali pirates killed four Americans after hijacking their yacht, and again Obama hesitated with using a ‘rapid-response’ method of engaging these pirates- the Americans were killed before the Navy Special Forces were able to board the vessel, in spite of the fact the Navy was shadowing the yacht all along awaiting orders.
President Obama’s newfound support of policies he once condemned not long ago only adds to the number of unreconciled contradictions swirling around in his head. Targeted assassinations, waterboarding, and the detention facilities at Guantanamo Bay are acceptable practices now that the war on terror is back in vogue. And for those last remaining holdouts who believe that there was “no connection between Iraq and 9-11”, well, that’s not the case- the identity of Osama’s courier, a fellow by the name of Abu Ahmed al-Kuwaiti was divulged by Hassan Ghul, an individual who was captured in Iraq in 2004 and subsequently interrogated by the CIA. It is entertaining to say the least to observe each of the Democratic Party’s claims about the war on terror and criticisms of Bush/Cheney’s policies fall apart one after the other.
One decision that Obama did not vacillate over was ordering a ‘Muslim-sensitive’ way to dispose of Bin Laden’s body. While burying Osama at sea may have been the proper choice, was it really necessary to go to the lengths we did to give him a dignified death- wrapping his body in a shroud, cleaning it, praying over his body in Arabic, and “easing it” into the sea? Osama was not deserving of such a dignified death considering he is responsible for the murder of thousands. The President has reminded us ad nauseum that Osama was someone who “distorted” Islam and was not a “Muslim leader”. Well if that’s the case, why all the concern to ensure his body was disposed of in accordance with Islamic Law? Alas, there are still many Muslims out there who are outraged by the particulars of the burial, but to quote Iowahawk, “any Muslim upset by the handling of Osama’s carcass was probably not too thrilled about his killing in the first place.”
